Political Backlash and the Palmer Raids

Political Backlash and the Palmer Raids The town of Norwood has done many things for the Americanization of their people. The people of the town wanted to put all of the immigrant’s cultures into theirs and create one whole culture for the town. Many people would fight for the assimilation and would stand and have speeches that were fighting for it. The newspaper the Norwood Messenger was a newspaper that had fought for the assimilation and would write about the failed attempts of Americanize adult “aliens” and proposed that businesses and corporations become involved by running English language courses straight in the business. The newspaper also wrote about how the women should also learn English so the men could have access to learning the language not just in the work space but at home too. Started saying non English speaking residents should be required by law to go to school to learn English as children. People started to think that it wasn’t the right idea to bring in these immigrants in the first place. New editorials showed up aimed at radical politicians, the new Soviet Union, and its Bolshevist agents.
